In 25 seasons
Coach Metcalf has compiled a record of 664 wins against 161 losses and
no ties. Metcalf's teams
have advanced to the Final Four 10 times winning 6 State Titles and finishing
as runner-up 3 times. The Sailors have twice been named National Champions
and were the USA Today Team of the Decade
for the 1990's. Coach Metcalf has received numerous coaching awards, among which he
was named National Coach of the Year twice and recipient of the Florida
Athletic Coaches Association Lifetime Membership Award. Metcalf has been a
Professional Instructor at SHS for 26 of his 32 years, currently teaching
Personal Fitness and has served as Sarasota High's Athletic Director for the
past 13 years.
